In the early days of Google, poor quality content could rank, in fact, lorem ipsum text with just a few keywords included could rank for serious terms, then Google evolved and for English speaking terms you had to write in detail but accuracy still wasn’t 100% important.

In the last few years that has all changed, writing high-quality content is super important if you want to rank in Google. It needs to be written by ideally a native speaker with a high detail for spotting errors.

Authority

Unlike content, authority (links) has been super important from day 1. Google was founded by two university students, and as anyone who has been to university will know when you are writing essays, you must quote your sources.

The original Google believed the more “links” sources a site got the more trustworthy it must be and therefore deserved to rank higher in Google.

Obviously the big flaw in this was that it was easy to game and just acquire a lot of low-quality links.
