How to get your Server Logs using cPanel

how to get your server logs using cpanel

One of the first steps to Server Log analysis is actually downloading the files and if you’re using cPanel to access your server its a very simple process.

Hopefully, you will have watched the previous video on how to keep historical logs, so know you have historical files your going to want to download them to analyse.

Here I am going to show you how to download the files if you want to know how to analyse them or what to look for you will have to read the Server Log section of the blog.

Its very simple:

  1. Log into your cPanel
  2. Scroll down to “Raw Access” – for those of you who did the previous video you will notice that this is the same process
  3. This time you want to scroll down further to where you will see a section called “Archived Raw Logs”
  4. Find the file you want and hit download
  5. You’re done, now you need to start analysing the files.

Its that simple to get the files, however, this is where it gets a little bit more complicated – but don’t worry I will cover what to do next.

The main problem is the file you have just downloaded is not readable by normal programmes like excel etc, you need to use a third party piece of software which we will cover.
